JAKARTA | Deraphukum.click | The Indonesian National Police (Polri) has reaffirmed its commitment to taking firm action against members of mass organizations (ormas) involved in acts of thuggery and investment obstruction in Indonesia. Polri aims to protect the business sector from extortion and illegal levies often carried out under the guise of mass organizations.
The Head of the Public Relations Division of Polri, Inspector General Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono, stated that strict measures would be taken against individuals proven to have committed criminal acts, especially those disrupting the investment climate. “We will not tolerate acts of thuggery that hinder businesses. Any ormas members involved in extortion or illegal levies will be dealt with in accordance with the prevailing laws,” Argo stated during a press conference in Jakarta on Friday (March 15).
However, before taking legal action, Polri prioritizes preventive measures such as socialization and guidance for mass organizations to prevent them from engaging in illegal practices. “We want ormas to fulfill their functions properly, not be used as tools for the interests of a few individuals seeking unlawful gains,” he added.
Polri is also actively educating the public and business actors to be more vigilant against various extortion schemes disguised as ormas activities. The public is urged to report any incidents of extortion or illegal levies that disrupt business operations. “Report to us if you encounter suspicious activities. We will follow up on every report seriously,” Argo emphasized.
This firm action aligns with President Joko Widodo’s directive on the importance of creating a conducive investment climate for national economic growth. The government and law enforcement agencies are committed to eradicating all forms of thuggery to ensure business stability and security in Indonesia.
With preventive efforts and strict law enforcement, it is hoped that disruptive acts of thuggery and investment obstruction can be minimized. Polri ensures that the law will be enforced indiscriminately for the common good. (Red)
